The incredible ease of Quick AF Live View shooting with a variable-angle LCD monitorQuick AF Live View is an α system feature that lets you compose your shots on the LCD monitor instead of only in the optical viewfinder. And unlike the live view systems found on compact cameras and other SLR cameras, Quick AF Live View offers nearly instantaneous autofocus response. So it's much easier to capture the magic moments that photography is all about. What's more, the variable-angle LCD monitor can be tilted up or down, making it easy to frame your subject even when taking high-position and low-position shots. |

Easy shooting mode selection, plus a convenient new on-screen Help GuideThe mode dial on the top of the camera offers instant access to 6 Scene Selection modes, each with a user-friendly Help Guide and example photo, as well as SLR-class PASM modes (Program, Aperture priority, Shutter-speed priority, and Manual). |
|---|
A unique new Graphic Display helps you hone your photographic skills by making it much easier to understand how aperture and shutter speed adjustments will affect your results.
All three cameras help you capture more shots with an exclusive Eye-Start® function that automatically activates the autofocus when you put your eye to the viewfinder, and full-auto flash*, which automatically opens and fires the flash as needed.

A portrait lens lets you blur background details to make your main subject stand out more dramatically from the scene. Just shoot at a low F-number setting to maximize background blurring with the unique Graphic Display feature on the α380, α330, and α230, it's easy to get it right.
With a macro lens, you gain entry to another dimensionA macro lens makes it easy to transform the everyday details of life into photographic works of art. With life-size imaging and the ability to focus on subjects that are just a few centimeters away, macro shooting opens the door to a whole new dimension in photo creativity. |
External flash versatility lets you call all the shotsWith an α Lighting System external flash unit, it's easy to get beautifully balanced exposures even when shooting portrait close-ups. Because with an external unit, you can bounce light off the ceiling to reduce harsh shadows and obtain more even and natural illumination. |

All three of these new models feature large, APS-C type CCD sensors, with 14.2-megapixel effective resolution on the α380, and 10.2-megapixel effective resolution on the α330 and α230. Image detail is truly amazing, and the high-speed BIONZ image processing engine delivers color that will amaze you with its true-to-life fidelity
SteadyShot® INSIDE image stabilization helps compensate for camera shake, enabling you to capture crisp, sharp images at shutter speeds 2.53.5 steps slower than would otherwise be possible without using a tripod or flash*. What's more, it works together with an anti-static coating on the low-pass filter to help keep the image sensor clean.
* Stabilization effect varies according to lens and shooting conditions.

An advanced D-Range Optimizer adopted from our top-of-the-line α900 helps you take beautiful photos in difficult lighting conditions. It gives you a choice of Standard mode, which optimizes exposure for the scene overall, and Advanced mode, which can be used to bring out rich shadow and highlight detail.
* D-Range Optimizer effectiveness varies according to shooting conditions.
* D-Range Optimizer Advanced uses technology provided by Apical Limited.
Getting the exposure right can sometimes be a tricky business, but these cameras make it easy. They've got a 40-segment light metering sensor that gives you a choice of multi-segment metering, center-weighted metering, and spot metering, and they all inherit auto white balance technology from the α900 that helps assure more realistic color.
When using Quick AF Live View, the Smart Teleconverter* function lets you enjoy the equivalent of 1.4x or 2x magnification at the press of a button. It's a great alternative to zooming that makes it easy to capture distant subjects during live view shooting. And because only the size of the image area is reduced, there's no loss in image quality.
* Image size automatically set to M at 1.4x, and S at 2x;
Smart Teleconverter not available on the α230.
The large LCD monitor features a special antireflective coating and auto LCD backlight control that ensure excellent screen visibility even in bright light. It also offers a variety of playback modes for image reviewing, and an easy-to-understand Graphic Display and Help Guide to assist your shooting.
* Viewable area, measured diagonally.
Creative Style settings make it easy to adjust images to suit your preference or artistic taste. Seven preoptimized image styles are provided, all of which can be fine-tuned further according to your wishes.
In addition to single and continuous drive modes, all three of these new cameras offer exposure bracketing and flash bracketing, as well as a new multi-shot self-timer mode that offers 3-frame or 5-frame shooting after a 10-second delay. It's a great way to ensure that everyone in a group shot is captured with their eyes open and a smile on their face!
Support for high-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media assures fast, error-free transfer of high-resolution image data.
Bundled software includes PMB (Picture Motion Browser)*, which makes it easy to upload images to your favorite photo-sharing websites and allows you to use data from an optional GPS Unit Kit to display images in a map format. You also get Image Data Converter SR, which lets you apply Creative Styles and D-Range Optimizer effects to RAW images before conversion, and Image Data Lightbox SR, for easy image comparison and sorting.
Requires Windows XP SP3, or Windows Vista®
High-quality polycarbonate recovered during CD production at Sony Music Manufacturing is used for many of the cameras' external body components, helping to conserve precious resources and ensure strict quality control.
