XEL-1 Organic LED: Television Goes Green

The new XEL-1 Organic LED television has amazing colour purity and contrast. The unique organic material directly emits light, bypassing the need for a backlight or complex construction, allowing for the screen to be an amazing 3mm thin. Without a backlight that is always on, the XEL-1 can consume as little as 34 W of power.* That’s less than a conventional light bulb!

 

BRAVIA™ LCD TVs: Power-Saving Picture

Bright reds and rich blacks, colour degradation is never an issue with the BRAVIA Engine™ Full Digital Video Processor. Using newly developed optical reflectors and low output lamps, this processor which is embedded in BRAVIA LCD televisions, can achieve high levels of brightness while consuming less than half of the energy of plasma televisions. BRAVIA LCD televisions deliver outstanding home entertainment matched only by its power saving efficiency.

 

VAIO® Notebooks: Ultra-Energy Efficient Thin Notebooks

Fifty percent thinner and 30% lighter than conventional notebooks, the VAIO™ TX Series Notebooks newly defines energy efficiency for notebooks. This achievement was born from the recently developed mercury-free LED backlight. At the brightest setting, this LED backlight reduces power consumption by 25% and allows for nine hours of operating time. These newly designed notebooks were built with both the consumer and the environment in mind.

Walkman® MP3 Players: Small Appetite, Big Stamina

Conserving energy is the driving force behind the new Sony Walkman® MP3 players. These players consume 25% less energy yet has 32 hours of continuous playback. With the help of the Virtual Mobile Engine™ directly embedded into a micro-chip, it is possible to adjust the circuitry to minimize energy consumption. This technology has afforded music-lovers the best in audio sound in an environmental conscious manner

Earbud Headphones: Less PVCs, Same Sound

Globally, there has been a push to eliminate polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from the environment. This widely used plastic is known to pose health risks to humans, animals and the environment. With this understanding, Sony is working quickly to eliminate PVC from products and packaging wherever possible. Viable alternatives have been introduced and will continue to replace PVC in Sony products in the future.

Product Packaging: Packaging that Cares

As a key design goal, Sony products are uniquely presented in packaging that protects both the product and the environment. Manufactured from recycled carton paper, vegetable based plastics and VOC-free vegetable based dyes, our packaging uses the minimum amount of material required to safely handle products. Consumers are further encouraged to recycle product packaging appropriately with the aid of recycling labels. Sony packaging is not only attractive but cares for the environment too.
